Answer to “Why do your puppies cost so much”

This is based on averages. This amount will vary up or down.
Ok, Once and for all I will answer this question. I am basing these figures on one breeding pair.
1) Foundation pair (Sire/dam) $2.400.00 -5,000.00 each
2) Food through a lifetime (Based on 8 years) $14,400.00
3) Lifetime vaccinations $500.00
4) Health certifications: Hips,elbows,Thyroid,Heart $1,200.00
5) Average vet cost $4,000.00
6) Show cost for confirmation $3,000.00
7) Breeding vet services (sonograms,bloodwork) $1,500.00
8) C-Section $1,200.00
9) Litter food, supplies, and vaccinations $1,000.00
10) My Time…I can’t even calculate
So here we are at a total of…$31,800.00
I generally do not breed my Bitches more than twice. Average for litter size is (6) puppies. The average cost of a Black River puppy is $2,200.00 x 12= $26,400.00
I have said many times to potential puppy owners and other breeders, You can sell/buy your puppies for whatever amount you want to $500.00 or $5,000.00 I could care less. If I wanted to do this strictly for profit my puppies would be $5,000.00. This is a hobby and the love of the breed. I just urge all interested in buying a Bullmastiff to take into consideration what you are getting into when price checking. Price is the last thing on my list when looking for an addition to my family.
